Medicare Claims - Referrals v2 Support

Release date:

Apr 2, 2025

We have updated our AU Medicare claims feature to support Referrals v2. In the past, we had a hack to back-update from Referrals v2 to v1, which allowed claiming to continue, but the implementation was incomplete and sometimes meant that some clients with valid referrals couldn't be claimed for, even though it should have been possible. This came to a head when Referrals v2 was turned on for Recharge, after which they faced issues with claiming, and requested to switch back to Referrals v1.

This enhancement adds a new dropdown to the claims creation modal, which displays all non-declined referrals of the client. Any referral can be selected here, but we have included validation to ensure that the referral selected has both

  1. a valid Medicare provider number attached, and

  2. starts before the appointment date, in alignment with Medicare claiming requirements.

This will allow customers with Referrals v2 to select a referral for the claim that they are creating, instead of relying on incomplete Referrals v1 data.

Please note that this enhancement is only available for customers with Referrals v2 turned on, as those still on Referrals v1 have a different logic for obtaining the referral's Medicare provider number.
